“How do you handle employee ultimatums? A good employee (not great) wants a substantial raise or he quits. Supposedly has another job lined up. He’s only been with us a year.”
How was the ultimatum presented?
i.e., was it like: “Either you pay up or I’m gone because I can make twice as much $$$ elsewhere!”
or was it more like:
“I feel like I’ve been doing really well, my reviews have all been stellar and I like it here / don’t want to leave but I’m not able to meet my bills with what I’m taking home...”
Don’t have any interest in working with the former yet would do just about anything I could (within reason of course) to keep the latter.
